FIM Moto3™ World Championship – Grand Prix of The Americas
Circuit of The Americas (Austin / TX, USA), Sunday, 14th April 2024
The season’s third race got underway in cloudy skies, but it remained dry all day. Noah
Noah Dettwiler, who finished in P22 on the grid on Saturday at the notorious Circuit of The Americas not far from Austin, was unimpressed by the conditions and coped well with the usual turbulences on the first few laps.
After a good start, the 18-year-old KTM rider quickly found himself in the battle for the points scoring positions.
again. Surrounded by riders with significantly more world championship experience, Dettwiler was able to keep up with his direct opponents for almost the
entire race distance. Only a shifting error with a few laps to go
prevented a possibly even better result in America.
After the visit to the US state of Texas, the championship returns to Europe now, where the
battle for points will continue in two weeks’ time at the famous Circuito de Jerez in Southern Spain.
#55 Noah DETTWILER (CIP Green Power, KTM):
Race: P14 +27.575
«I am happy to have scored my first championship points. We finally got off
to a good start, did not make any mistakes and also made a good first lap. I was in the pack
right from the start. Up until six laps before the end, I rode very consistently and without any mistakes, and it was fun to battle with the guys. On this lap, however, I engaged the wrong gear because I was a bit too late on the brakes there. That was why I lost contact a little bit to the guys. I wanted to catch up again straight away, but one mistake after another crept in. Unfortunately, that was the only lap I messed up, otherwise I am very happy with my race. After that, the tyres were already very worn and without slipstreaming along the long straights I could not do anything. Unfortunately, I could not get any closer, even though I tried it hard.
I was still happy with my first two points crossing the line, even if it was a bit
of a shame that I lost the group. On the other hand, it is a mistake that
I can learn from. I think if we continue in Jerez the way we have been working here, then we can
expect more results like this step by step. To be in the top 15 for the first time is
a very nice feeling and makes you want more. But now we have to keep our feet on the ground and continue our work consistently. But today’s race is a solid building block that we can build on.»
Tom LÜTHI (Sports advisor):
«Congratulations to Noah for his first points in the world championship. That was a race where you had to finish and stay seated. Now it’s important to build on that and keep improving.»
