Training report GP Thailand, Buriram | Complicated opening day in Thailand

FIM Moto3™ World Championship – Grand Prix of Thailand
Chang International Circuit (Buriram, Thailand) | Friday, October 25th, 2024

Noah Dettwiler missed Practice 1 session on Friday afternoon due to pain in his right wrist.

Friday at the stop-and-go circuit of Buriram was extremely painful for 19-year-old Noah Dettwiler, who is still suffering from the after-effects of his race crash in Japan. The several hard braking points over the course of a lap caused severe pain. Nevertheless, the KTM rider and the staff at the Medical Centre decided ahead of the session not to use painkillers.

This decision backfired. When Dettwiler returned to the Medical Centre at lunchtime to have his wrist bandaged and pick up his medication, the staff were worried about the condition of his wrist. Dettwiler had to see the race doctors, who referred the man from Solothurn to a hospital in Buriram for an X-ray after an ultrasound examination at the track’s clinic. As a result, he was ineligible to take part in the first timed session.

In the meantime, Dettwiler has returned to the circuit with the X-ray images and has been cleared fit by the race doctors for the remaining the weekend. However, a final decision will be made on Saturday morning after Practice 2 as to whether it makes sense for the Moto3™ rookie to take part in the remaining sessions.

«For me, this morning was all about getting to know the track. After the session, I went to the Medical Centre to see the physiotherapists and to get the medication I am taking for my wrist. The strain is much more here because there are more hard braking points than last weekend at Phillip Island. So, because of this I had more pain and therefore I had to go to a hospital in Buriram to have a scan. That was why I could not ride in the afternoon. At least we can rule out any fractures in my right wrist now. But a water deposit has formed in one place, which is causing the pain. I am glad that I have been given the green light for the rest of the weekend though. »
