Training report GP Japan, Mobility Resort Motegi | Fifty-fifty opening day in the land of the rising sun

FIM Moto3™ World Championship – Grand Prix of Japan
Mobility Resort Motegi (Motegi, Japan) | Friday, October 4th, 2024

It didn’t take long for Noah Dettwiler on Friday morning to find his way around the non-rhythmic track at Motegi on the main island of Japan.

The Grand Prix of Japan began in cloudy October weather with very warm temperatures and high humidity. There were occasional raindrops throughout the day, but these hardly affected the competitors on track.

For the Moto3™ class, round 16 of the season began with a rain-soaked Grand Prix course at the by Honda owned diverse Motegi Mobility Resort, where 19-year-old Noah Dettwiler once again underlined his talent and skills to adapt quickly. Towards the end of Free Practice Session, the asphalt dried out more and more, which the entire starting field took advantage of to gather information with slick tyres and a dry set-up. The KTM rider finished in 16th place.

The conditions were much clearer in the afternoon. Despite a few raindrops, slicks were the right recipe for fast lap times. However, the changeover was not easy for Dettwiler to master, and he noticed potential for improvement at some key points along the 4.8-kilometer lap. The Swiss rider finished Friday in Motegi in 25th place.

«I rode at this track for the first time this morning and I have to say that I liked Motegi straight away. The track is really cool, very long and also very demanding. The first session was also to my liking. I found a good feeling in the wet and later also in half-half conditions, as well as a good rhythm for myself. That was a positive start. Unfortunately, we had more problems again in the afternoon in the dry. We will now try to change something. Above all, I have to work on my riding style. Another point is the many hard braking points here. Nevertheless, we will take the positives from today and do our best again tomorrow. »
