The 19-year-old rookie in FIM Moto3™ World Championship remains confident despite falling behind expectations. After a mixed qualifying day in the heat of Malaysia, he will start from ninth row on Sunday but will go into the race with a positive attitude.
On the second day of practice at the Sepang International Circuit, Dettwiler was able to improve his time by almost 1.5 seconds compared to Friday – a solid improvement at one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar. Nevertheless, not everything went to plan in qualifying: a few mistakes prevented a better grid position. In the end, he was 2.1 seconds off the best time in Q1.
Dettwiler’s goal is clear: “Start the race on a positive note and make the best of the situation.”

«As planned, we stayed on the right track in the morning and made progress. I felt good overall in qualifying in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I made a mistake on my last lap, which was reasonably okay. It is a bit of a shame that I lost some time as a result. Nevertheless, we should not hang our heads down, because I do not think we have done a bad job so far this weekend. Even if the grid position suggests otherwise, we are going into the race on a positive note and will give it our all. »
