Qualifying report GP Emilia-Romagna, Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli | Progress in qualifying not rewarded

FIM Moto3™ World Championship – Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix
Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli (Misano Adriatico, Italy) | Saturday, September 21st, 2024

Saturday at the second Misano Grand Prix went quite differently for Noah Dettwiler. A radical change to the bike for qualifying helped him to feel better.

Still not 100% fit, Noah Dettwiler nevertheless went into the second day of practice at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix on the Misano World Circuit, which is just a stone’s throw from the Italian Adriatic coast, in a good mood. However, in good conditions, the KTM rider struggled to find a good feeling for his machine in this morning’s Practice two and was therefore unable to finish higher than 23rd.

During the break until qualifying got underway shortly after lunch time, his technical crew pulled out all the stops with their skills and experience and hit the mark with a change. Dettwiler felt much more comfortable with his package again and immediately set faster lap times than in the previous sessions. At the end of the time attack for a good grid position, the 19-year-old world championship rookie had improved his personal best time from both practice sessions by 0.7 seconds. Nevertheless, he has to start the 14th race of the season from P25 on the grid on Sunday.

Swiss television SRF will broadcast the Moto3™ race from the GP Emilia-Romagna on Sunday live on SRF zwei (09:50-10:50). Alternatively, there is the «ServusTV On” app and the paid live stream on the official MotoGP™ website.

«As I lacked the feeling in the morning, we made a radical change for qualifying. That paid off, because I had a much better feeling and was able to improve significantly in terms of lap times. Of course, the position doesn’t meet our expectations, but we have to take the positives from today, which is the progress we made and the good feeling for the bike. We have to keep that for tomorrow’s race and before that we will study the data carefully in the evening to see if we can still gain something for the race. Nevertheless, I think we have done a solid job, even if the starting position is unfortunately not so good. But the good work motivates us for race day.»
