FIM Moto3™ World Championship – Gran Premio d’Italia
Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello (Scarperia e San Piero, Italien) | Wednesday, 29th May, 2024
The Gran Premio d’Italia at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello has been regarded as an absolute highlight of the season for years. For 19-year-old Noah Dettwiler from Switzerland, however, this weekend marks his debut at the race track amidst the breathtakingly beautiful Tuscan countryside.
It’s not just the circuit around 30 kilometres north-east of Florence that is a feast for the eyes. Every year, all paddock people in Grand Prix racing look forward to returning to Mugello, which takes its name from a mountain range in the Apennines, because of all the culinary delights and scenic beauty in the surrounding area.
The track’s predominantly fast and flowing layout, including a straight of more than 1.1 kilometres, guarantees a high-speed spectacle in a class of its own. For this reason, Moto3™ World Championship rookie Noah Dettwiler once again faces a completely new challenge that he has to master in his learning process to graduate at world level.
The circuit was inaugurated back in 1976 with a motorcycle Grand Prix. After a long break until 1991, the motorcycle world championship returned to Mugello with a one-off San Marino Grand Prix there, and the Gran Premio d’Italia has been held there since 1992.
Swiss television will be showing the race live on SRF2 on Sunday. The broadcast starts at 10:50 am. For viewers from Switzerland and Austria, all of the weekend’s sessions can be seen on the video and streaming platform “ServusTV On” with English commentary. In Germany, the broadcasts on Saturday and Sunday can be seen in a free live stream on ServusTV, while DF1 also broadcasts the Moto3 qualifying and the race on Sunday live. Alternatively, there is also the live stream on the official MotoGP website, where all sessions of all classes will be streamed, as at every Grand Prix. However, a paid video pass is required for this. Another option for Germany is a paid subscription to Sky Sport.
Tom LÜTHI (Sporting mentor):
«Looking back, Barcelona was a very difficult weekend for Noah. But it’s normal that weekends like this can happen. Noah simply has to take his steps in this learning process and quickly check off setbacks like this. So, we all hope that he will soon take bigger steps forward and being racing closer to the top. It’s a mental aspect to get through difficult times and fight through them. But that will make him stronger. The good and positive thing is that after a difficult weekend, where things didn’t go so well, we’re going straight to the next race in Mugello.»
«Mugello is one of the most beautiful race tracks in the world. That’s not just my opinion, many other motorcycle racers say the same and I think Noah agrees. The most important thing for him is that he has been able to switch off, take a deep breath and relax over the last few days. And, of course, to clear his mind again. In Mugello, where it is really a lot of fun to ride, it is important that he can enjoy everything and find his speed again. There will certainly be a lot of slipstreaming in Moto3 class. It’s a very fast track with a super-long straight that even leads uphill a bit at its end. It will definitely be exciting and I hope for the best for Noah.»
